On November 13, thirty-five people attended the launch of the Wakatipu Wilding Conifer Strategy in Queenstown.  This 2008-2012 version was written by local man, Colin Day of Go-Green Consulting, assisted by Nick Ledgard of Scion.  Many thousands of hectares have been invaded by wilding trees, which have the capacity to completely change the appearance of this unique landscape if no control is undertaken.  A major recommendation was to form a community-driven Wakatipu Wilding Control Group, composed of all those affected by wilding trees.  Such a Group will be the key to accessing the funds needed to keep on top of wildings – which are likely to forever be a part of the Queenstown scenery.

The wilding tree backdrop to Queenstown is a familiar one, but a Strategy has been launched to keep it under control.
