We currently running a beta trial to involve NZ citizens more in wilding conifer management. In particular the detection and finding of wilding conifers "outliers" in many areas and the situation that you find them . The reporting of such locations with a few descriptors and a photograph can help scientists and managers greatly to understand and manage wilding infestations better and act quicker if they get told about new infestations that they have not known of!

We using currently two tools Epicollect and ODK in a trial setup.

Epicollect was developed by the Imperial College in London that makes recording of wilding conifers very easy with the help of your smartphone. The app is called EPIcollect and its free and can be downloaded from the apple and google play stores. Once installed you can create a link in the app to download our specific data collection form. ODK (open data kit) was developed by University of Washington and provides a set of tools for capturing data via a smartphone.
