Wilding conifer research

Control projects

Project description

Optimise uptake, retention and translocation of spray, study a novel helicopter spot application system to efficiently treat clumped but dispersed wilding conifer populations, and propagate either low spread or sterile genotypes.

‘Winning against wildings’
– funded by Ministry for Business and Innovation

Research team lead: Carol Rolando

Specific research topics

Using additives and agrichemical combinations, look at how to maximise uptake, retention and translocation of herbicide mixes in a range of wilding conifer species. This will provide recommendations on optimised active ingredient mixes for subsequent field testing.

In collaboration with DOC, field trials completed to assess targeting efficiency of a novel helicopter spot application system to efficiently treat clumped but dispersed wilding conifer populations.
